During the 2020 legislative session, the passage of HB 819 determined that Louisiana physicians can recommend medical marijuana for any debilitating condition they are qualified to treat if they believe the patient will benefit, drastically increasing the number of realizable patients in the state.
Cultivation & Distribution in Louisiana
Within state-sanctioned programs nationwide, Louisiana has the fewest cultivation permits — set at two. Connecticut and Arkansas, with 1 million fewer residents respectively, each allow for six cultivation permits. Utah, which also has 1 million fewer residents, allows for eight permits.
Throughout the state, there are only nine dispensaries where patients can obtain their medical marijuana.
